Ash-free Filter Papers for Quantitative and Gravimetric Analysis

Sartorius offers a full portfolio of quantitative filter papers, used for quantitative and gravimetric analyses as well as pressure or vacuum filtration. They contain an alpha-cellulose content of > 98 % and are acid-washed to make the papers ashless and achieve highest purity.

  • Made of 100 % cotton linters
  • Ash-free (Ash content < 0.01 % according to DIN 54370)
  • Wet-strengthened
  • Color-coded box for easy selection
  • Supplied in sheet, disc, folded and customized formats

Filter Papers for Qualitative Analyses

These qualitative filter papers are essentially used for analytical and routine purposes, when no gravimetric analyses are required. They are available for a wide range of different needs and applications.

  • Large variety of paper grades
  • Low ash content (0.06 – 0.15 %)
  • Multiple diameters, thicknesses, particle retentions and filtration rates
  • Supplied in sheet, disc, folded and customized formats

Frequently Asked Questions

Wet-strengthened papers are made for vacuum or pressure filtration. Due to their wet strength, they do not release any fibers. They are also revered for their mechanical and chemical resistance levels.

To produce quantitative papers, the high-quality raw materials (cotton linters with 98 % of alpha-cellulose content) are treated to reduce mineral content and therefore get an ignition residue of 0.01 %.

Qualitative papers are also made of high-quality raw materials (refined pulp & linters with 95 % of alpha-cellulose content) but without any reduction of mineral content. Their ignition residue is 0.1 %.

Quantitative and qualitative papers are mostly used in analytics due to their quality.

Qualitative and technical papers can be used in analytics for pre-filtration steps but predominantly cover technical filtration.

No, there is no relation between the weight of a paper and its filtration capacities. You can define filtration parameters of a paper over the thickness and length of the fibers (grinding time of the raw material). A 100 g/m² paper can get the same filtration rate than a 65 g/m² paper.

Filter papers are depth filters made of fibers with an irregular structure. Their depth structure allows retention of different particle sizes not only on the surface of the filter but also in its structure. A filter paper can only be defined by the capacity to retain a certain particle size. As there is no standard of how to define particle retention of a depth filter, the comparison between filters is valid only with filters tested with the same test method.
